ABOUT US

Blues began life about a decade ago in the historic Old Gym at Diocesan College in Cape Town. The name Blues comes from the colour awarded to exceptional athletes at renowned academic institutions. Since then Blues grown into one of the leading fencing clubs in Africa and the largest in the Western Cape.

Blues largely focuses on epee, which is the most popular weapon in South Africa and the one we are most competitive internationally. Besides epee, Blues has a growing number of foilists as we seek to help relaunch a weapon that South African fencers used to excel in.

The club offers bouting, group training and individual lessons for people of all ages from absolute beginners to international medal winners.

LOCATION & TIMES

Blues has its own dedicated fencing salle in the Cape Town City Bowl (151 Hatfield Street, Gardens), with four permanent fencing strips, state-of-the-art scoring systems, and a fully stocked armoury with clothing and equipment that beginners can borrow until they are ready to get their own kit.

The club’s junior groups train 4pm - 5.30pm on Monday, Wednesdays and 9am - 11am on Saturdays. The adult training sessions are 5.30pm - 9pm Monday to Thursday and 12pm - 3pm on Saturdays. Open bouting and lessons are available on Fridays from 4pm - 6.30pm.
